Labor Day

We are fortunate to have friends with a like-aged son who have become our fellow holiday revelers. They, too, are Midwestern transplants here in Tucson and so, in the absence of having our families nearby, we often celebrate together.

Today, we hosted the festivities at our house. We grilled burgers, hot dogs, and these excellent chicken, pineapple, and bacon sausages. Our guests brought couscous, a green salad, and watermelon. There were brownies for dessert. The two dogs and the two little boys played in the yard. There was a wagon ride and some rearranging of leftover patio bricks. Inside, there was a fair exchange of a ride on a tricycle for a ride on the rocking moose. All of the pots and pans were removed from and then returned to the cabinets, and there was even a game or two of chase around the couch with lots of giggles when someone got caught. In addition to all of this, we adults managed a bit of conversation in between the child and pet wrangling. It was a good day.

  1. I agree. I had a blast. It was fun to see the two kids interacting.

We drank some beers, ate some food, hung out with friends. It was a great day and I was exhausted afterwards. I think everyone was. Our dog flopped on the floor and didn’t move. I almost did the same.
